Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Sherill Industries ("VLUM," "we," "us"), located in New Haven, Connecticut, collects, uses, and shares information when you use the VLUM mobile app and the vlum.app website (together, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

• Account details — your name and email address, or the identifier from Sign in with Apple. You may set a display name.
• Content you create or contribute — the photos, videos, voice recordings, typed messages, signatures, and captions you add to a card, album, or live collection, plus the recipient name/email or phone number you provide so we can deliver it.
• Support communications — messages you send us.

Information collected automatically

• Location (Live Mode only) — if you use Live Mode, we check your device location to confirm you are at the event venue and, if you opt in, to notify you when you arrive so you can leave a message. Location is used for these features only; we do not build advertising profiles from it. You can turn location permission off at any time in your device settings (Live Mode features that require it will stop working).
• Device & usage data — basic app/device information and diagnostic logs used to operate, secure, and improve the Service.

Payments

Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple or Google through their in-app purchase systems. We receive confirmation of your purchase and subscription status; we do not receive or store your full payment card details.

2. How we use information

• Provide, operate, and maintain the Service — including creating collections, gathering contributions, and delivering keepsakes to recipients.
• Confirm event presence and, with your permission, send Live Mode arrival notifications.
• Send transactional emails such as delivery notifications and account/verification messages.
• Manage subscriptions, storage, and account features.
• Provide support, maintain security, prevent abuse, and comply with law.
• Improve the Service.

3. How information is shared

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as follows:

• With recipients you choose — content you contribute or send is shared with the intended recipient(s) of that card, album, or collection.
• Service providers that operate the Service on our behalf, including: Google Firebase (authentication, database, file storage, hosting, and serverless functions), Resend (transactional email), Apple and Google (sign-in and payments), and mapping/geocoding providers used to resolve event locations.
• Legal & safety — when required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and property of users, the public, or VLUM.
• Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

4. Storage & retention

• Your account content is retained while your account is active and according to your storage plan.
• Delivered links are accessible for a limited period and then deleted, unless a subscriber saves the keepsake to their Memory Box, in which case it is retained for them.
• You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Account → Delete account), which removes your account and associated content, subject to limited retention required for legal, security, or backup purposes.

5. Your choices & rights

• Access & deletion — manage your content in-app and delete your account at any time.
• Location — grant or revoke location permission in your device settings.
• Notifications — control push and email notifications in your device and app settings.
• Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (access, correction, deletion, portability). Contact us to exercise them.

6. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

7. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards (including encryption in transit and access controls through our providers) to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. International users

The Service is operated from the United States and information may be processed there and in other countries where our providers operate. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer and processing.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date, and where appropriate we will provide additional notice.
